For the past few seasons Uni Strollers have been our bogey team, but we were due a bit of luck against them and this morning was that time.
They were down to the bare bones and struggling for numbers, whilst we were back to a full 16 after last week's debacle. This was going to be a test of our mentality.
When their keeper got injured after 20 odd minutes they were reduced to 10 men which completely handed us the initiative. Strollers though defended in resolute fashion for much of the first half, frustrating us as we showed a real lack of composure in the final 3rd.
Although our decision making was poor, we still managed to hit the post and the bar, but it was 0-0 at the interval.
After a good talking to at half-time we immediately improved in the second half. On 51 Jay Mal fired us into the lead with a rasping left foot strike. It was his 5th goal in his last 3 appearances.
After 64 minutes we got the all important 2nd goal. Tom Frost broke out of midfield, slipped Ashley Britton in and he did the rest with a clinical right footed finish.
This settled us down and 2 minutes later we killed the game off. A swift break down our left eventually saw Tom Davis in possession 30 yards out. He drifted in an accurate cross that Ash met with a good header that clipped the underside of the bar before finding the net.
With just under 15 minutes remaining Ash completed his hat-trick. Frosty was again the supplier, setting Ash through on goal where he rounded the keeper and tapped home left footed for the perfect treble.
Ash still had time to notch his 4th late on. Frosty made it an assist hat-trick as he clipped a ball behind the tiring Uni backline and Ash beat the keeper to it with another left foot finish.
Naturally we did have a number of other chances, but to be fair to Strollers they fought for the whole 90 and any more goals would probably have been harsh on them.
It's not always easy to break down a determined 10 men, but in the second half we did a really good job of it to pick up our 9th straight League victory.
MoM: Ash - mentions here for Frosty and Odg who were both excellent, but Ash took the Uni back 4 apart in ruthless fashion.
Huge thanks to Baulds and Jay for running the line and to those who came down to support - massively appreciated.
