David ton enough to secure a draw

Starting to like Div 7, good wickets and good grounds. East Oxford was a University ground and is a lovely place to play. Anyway, as normal I lost the toss (which I wasn't unhappy about) and we had a bat. Adam and Moiz started well with no demons in the pitch or the bowling, however, both of them found ways to get out. Moiz toe ended a full toss to square leg, while Adam chased a wide one. 52-2 off 15. Venks came in and immediately hit his first 2 balls for 4, setting the tone for the partnership. Both became increasingly aggressive as the oppo fielding left something to be desired. David passed his 50 and the partnership extended to 85 before Venks was bowled for 30 in the 30th over. Ben joined David added 50 for the next wicket before Ben was run out backing up - a deflection from a David drive onto the stumps. In the meantime David cruised to his ton , well deserved on a sluggish wicket with low bounce. However the last 5 overs we lost impetus as a tired David went and Aqib/Argy struggled to breach the in field. 214-5 was a good score though, or so we thought.

Ben opened the bowling in the hope the sluggish wicket would make timing difficult but East Oxford seemed to enjoy it and Ben went for 16 off 2 overs. Aqib was bowling well but the wicket had seemed to quicken up and the odd delivery flew to the boundary now. Argy replaced Ben and tried to steady things somewhat but Aqib got the first wicket - Jahangir LBW for 19. Skipper replaced Aqib and decided defense/negativity was the best ploy and despatched a legside boundary cordon of 3 deep catchers. Playing on the oppo patience he had Nawaz LBW for 28. With East Oxford not wanting to take chances, a stalemate developed as singles were taken but not much more. This at least arrested the run rate and brought the game back towards Wolverton. It was pretty tedious but effective. Eventually Abeev cracked, bowled trying to reverse sweep Skipper for 31 with the score on 132. Hyyuz, the number 4 was still going well but Skipper had Walted LBW for 9. With 4 overs left East Oxford now needed 35. Max came onto bowled and in a terrific burst of pace and accuracy he hauled us further back into the game bowling Hureez and going for just 8 off his 2 overs. The last over they needed 14 with Argy bowling. The third ball went for 6 but with 6 needed to win, Argy bowled Hyyuz for 82.

A long day but a great game. David played an outstanding knock and we hung in there with the ball.
