Oxford won the toss and elected to bowl. Did they have a strong bowling attack or were they simply protecting a weak batting line up?
Town got off to a solid start with Skipper Atif Akhlaq contributing 28 off 57 balls in an opening 73 run partnership before falling LBW to N Rivett his first of an 8 wicket haul.
Mike Yeates continued where Akhlaq left off falling just short of his first half century of the season reaching 47 in 93 minutes in a 52 run partnership with Butt with the score on 125.
Wickets continued to fall slowly with Butt, Jamil Raja Aky Hussain Hàroon Málik Ahsan Malik all chipping in with double figures boosting the score to 171 all out off 47.1 overs. Rivett finished with impressive figures of 17-2-8- 46. A herculean effort.
Town responded aggressively dismissing both Oxford openers for ?'s with H Málik and Butt doing the damage. Oxford temporarily steadied the ship but only delayed the inevitable with Butt ripping through the top order supported by H Málik who dismissed another batsman for a ?.
Oxford seem paralysed and unable to respond and quickly succumbed to a measley 58 all out with A Málik and Glenn Dickinson mopping up the tail.
Extras top scored with 13. Looks like it was a weak batting line up after all!
After careful consideration my FB MotM award goes to I Butt. A devastating spell of 12-6-4-19 setting up Town for their 2nd consecutive win of the season. Well done ma man, a case no IF's but all BUTTS!!
