In a way this was a disappointing game because Cantabrigian didn't seem to offer the resistance we had expected from a side that we only beat at their place earlier in the season by one score in the closing minutes.
There was a familiar pattern of the opposition scoring first, before we had woken up and again at the death when the game was won.
Although difficult to assess properly the quality of a side against a weak opposition, it must be said that our backs strung together some scintillating moves, resulting in some of the most entertaining rugby we have seen for a long time at Highams.
Of course this would not have been possible without those unsung heroes – the forwards. They had the upper hand in set play and loose and provided good possession throughout.
All round our defence was also a major asset. We shall need this in the remaining weeks with tough games coming up.
However, we now sit 13 points clear of nearest rivals – Romford & Gidea Park – whom we play (away) on 9th March. Lots of spectator support will be needed for that one.
Young Saul Wratten captained the 2nd XV to a narrow win over Old Albanians and Steve Browne's 3rd XV lost narrowly to Belsize Park (away).
