Despite woodford dominating the set piece it is to Chelmsford's credit that despite losing 2 front row players to injury, they refused the opportunity to go to uncontested scrums, a move which would been to their benefit.
Woodford started brightly and Lawlor scored the first of his tries before Chelmsford hit back with two of their own up the slope. However, the Highams men regained control and replied with three further tries of their own in the first half, securing an early try bonus point.
Chelmsford fought hard to get back into the game but Woodford held firm to secure a memorable win on the road. Chelmsford were deservedly rewarded for their persistence with a late try for their winger who finished well to earn his side a try bonus point.
