Despite playing the Roding Lane card, the mighty 2s struggled to deal with a well organised opposition and came second in the eventual fall out for the medals. With a meeting time of 12.30, it would seem a number of second team players were foxed by this, arriving in dribs and drabs. Fortunately, the kick off was moved back 5 mins to allow for traffic and the eventual arrival of the Alligator (2.03pm ~ 2 mins before kick off, Friday nights beer pong Tournament had taken its toll). With 15 on the pitch and a couple of subs, Woodford kicked off.
A number of restarts later (some not making the 10 metre mark), it was half time. Guy Bishop deciding James Dawson required a rest, promptly knocked him out, with his nose, as the whistle blew. There was a large consensus from the mighty 2s in the huddle, that no one was enjoying their afternoon. The second half began, with Woodford under pressure. Some admiral defence, actually galvanised everyone’s approach and Woodford managed to regain some possession and build, albeit slowly, some momentum.
2 nicely worked scores came in the second half, as Woodford’s pack exerted some dominance. Seamus McNally, crashing over in the corner after some sustained pressure and Alex Hare finished off a well worked catch and drive from a lineout, again in the same corner. Westcliff themselves managed to muster 2 further scores in the second half, a small consolation that honours were even in the second half (if we pretend conversations do not count!). Final Score 10-53
