Woodford played their first home game of the season against Colchester A&B and Romford/Gidea Park in rather warmer conditions than anyone was used to! Woodford had three teams; Yellow, Red and Blue. All the teams played with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship.
Woodford Reds were a bit rusty in all elements to start with but improved greatly towards the end of the tournament. Some good passing and defending. Archie James, Nathan Walters, and Tommy Porter scored some stand-out tries. They lost to Colchester 1-6 followed by a second loss, of 4-6 against the other Colchester team. They had a win against their own Woodford Blues. (5-3)
The Woodford Blues had a faltering start, losing their first game 1- 6 to Colchester, but then began to get into their stride and after playing a friendly against the Woodford Reds, they beat Romford G/P 5-4. Oscar King made some tremendous breaks and Thomas Weller scored an excellent try.
Woodford Yellows started their two games off with a win against Romford G/P 6 tries to 5, with a hat-trick from Nicholas Crossley. The second game against Colchester proved less successful with a close loss of 6-8. Callum Nagra managed two brilliant runs, straight from the first offload. A special mention to Xavier who managed to score the last try of the game, having only joined the team two weeks’ ago. Well done!
