SHELFORD-14 v WOODFORD-12

A hard fought game which saw long periods of domination by the Woods but alas for all our possession in Shelford's 22 we could not quite manage to convert that into points.

Also it was our first experience of playing on a 3G surface which I think the boys enjoyed, one thing is for sure had it been a grass pitch it would have been another cancelled fixture to make 4 on the spin.

The first half was almost entirely spent in the Shelford 22 apart from two break away tries to our hosts, totally against the run of play, however the points gap was halved when Nathan Morris latched on to a neat cross field kick from Lewis Walcott, he gathered up the ball to plant it firmly under the posts, Lewis slotted home the conversion to make it 14-7 at half time.

The second half got underway with Woodford making 7 substitutions, and once again the dominance in both possession and territory continued, this was again rewarded as Owen Morris smashed through the Shelford line to place the ball down in the corner, leaving a tricky kick for matt Unwin to level the game. Unfortunately the ball went just wide of the post from the resulting kick leaving the gap at 2 points.

Despite continued pressure the score remained the same fill the final whistle sounded, yes a defeat but a great game to watch, and a credit to the players and the coaches in such bitterly cold conditions.
