Some real highs and lows today from the boys as we lost the game despite extended periods of possession and territory.
The Shelford boys scored within the first five minutes but we pegged them back after a typical bulldog try from our ever present hooker Guy Wales.
However this was about the only highlight of a first half which saw many missed tackles and misplaced passes from the Woods which saw us go in 26-5 down.
After a bit of a shuffle in personnel and a stern talking to from Ed the Essex boys came out determined in the second period and spent at least 75% of the second half in the Shelford 22. This domination was rewarded with a brilliant try after a mazy solo run from Lewis Walcott which was quickly followed up by a try for Captain Owen Morris, then converted by Lewis Walcott, 26-17, was a comeback on the cards??
Alas NO, as Woodford pushed forward once again the ball was lost on the 5 metre Shelford line and a breakaway run from a Shelford centre (Usain Bolt I think his name was!) saw the score move on to 33-17 with just 5 minutes left.
A late rally by the boys didn't result in any points as the ball was knocked on whilst at the Shelford try line to see the game come to an end.
