Finally after weeks of bad weather, and games being cancelled for various reasons Woolhampton CC got their season underway.
Sadly they sank to a 91 run defeat to bitter friendly rivals Prestcold
Douai Park was looking beautiful under the early June sunshine, and clearly the team winning the toss would elect to bat. Sadly for Woolhampton captain James Buckland lost the toss and Prestcold were batting.
Tim Stokes, Charl Sweigers and Will Marsh all making their debuts for Woolhampton CC
Sweigers from the St Mary's Academy of cricket opened the bowling alongside Mike Hanham. Whilst Hanham as always kept things tight at his end Sweigers benefitted from this and picked up 2 early wickets on debut.
He eventually finished with 3 wickets for 36 runs off his 7 overs.
For Prestcold a good partnership from Mayhew (37) and Benham (78) gave Prestcold the platform to post a challenging score of 189.
Woolhampton CC opened with Buckland and Marsh (playing against his parent club). Marsh was adjudged LBW first ball from Andy Rosier in the second over to leave Woolhampton CC a wicket down with no runs on the board.
Steve Howe was well caught and Buckland was out shortly after it seemed Woolhampton would be left with too much to do - but a great knock from Ed Wylie who got off the mark with a huge 6 but batted well only to fall just short of his half centaury as he was out for 48
Woolhampton were disappointed to be bowled out for just 98, but it was good to finally be out playing cricket.
Onwards to Goring next week!
