Worcester boys overcome feisty Taunton pack to make last 8

Worcester RFC Under 18s prevailed in a hard fought last 16 match against previously unbeaten Taunton at Weston’s on Sunday 25th March.

Taunton came out with all guns blazing and with the wind at their backs, scored three early penalties to an unconverted Matt Long try. Worcester took some time to get their discipline going but continued to put the visitors under pressure. With no further scoring Half Time came with Worcester four points down.

In a reverse of the first half Worcester started strongly quickly scoring a try, Gaidermann, converted by May, another converted try by the same duo quickly followed. Taunton persevered and their impressive 10 added a further penalty before two more tries by Phillips & Clarke, both converted by May, left the final score Worcester 33 v Taunton 12.

Worcester defended stoutly all game, but will need to work on the 18 penalties conceded plus some line outs issues before the next round which is now the subject of an open draw for the country’s top 8 Under 18 club teams.
