Bonus Point Win v Leek RFC
By WRFC Web Master
The Wanderers secured a bonus point win against a hard working Leek RFC by 33 points to 20 at Weston's on Saturday.
The first quarter saw play largely contained around half way, neither side really looking like breaking the deadlock.
Leek opened up a 6 point lead with two well struck penalties.
The Wanderers suddenly sprung into life and dominated the second quarter.
A great chance was spurned, courtesy of a forward pass, before Alex Crawshaw scored under the Leek posts following good work by James Aston and Paul Burton, Tom Biggs converting.
Three tries followed quickly; a penalty try after one indiscretion too many by the Leek pack; James Priddey latching onto an inside pass from Matt Marskell split the Leek defence and with support aplenty Priddey cantered in under the posts and, Mike Dodge finished well in the corner having been put into space by Aston, Biggs converted two.
26 to 6 at half time and the Wanderers looked set to create more scoring opportunities.
The second half, however, was dominated by the referee's whistle, several yellow cards for both sides and a host stoppages for injuries, neither side could find any rhythm as play struggled to get beyond a couple of phases.
It was Leek who had the edge territorially and scored two converted tries, interrupted by a second for Dodge following good handling skills and pace from Burton and Crawshaw.
Young Will Biggs came on in the second half and had a fine debut at hooker.
The Wanderers are away to unbeaten Bridgnorth next week end, 3pm kick off.
