About

Wuhan Baiji Rugby can be traced back to foreign students playing touch rugby in Huazhong Normal University since around 2010. As this went on the players wanted to push on to play competitive contact rugby and we started to make links with other clubs around China. The club was officially founded around November 2012 as we got our first playing shirts with the help of The Toucan Irish Bar.

We then decided to join the Sino 10s League: Yangtze Delta Division, along with Nanjing Rockets and Hangzhou Harlequins (with the league consisting of Beijing, Shanghai and Yangtze Delta divisions). Our first ever match day was hosted at Wuhan Institute of Physical Education on Saturday 13th April with 2 impressive wins without conceding a single point as well as putting out a competitive 2nd team on the day.

We also aim to spread rugby to the local Chinese population any way we can. We've done this with both adults and children by linking up with various organisations and putting on events where the general public can take part.

As a club we pride our selves on the the diverse range of cultures and countries that have been involved in our team, whether this is playing touch, coming to full contact training or being able to represent the team in competitive matches. Nationalities that have been involved in the club include China, England, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Papa New Guinea, South Africa, France, USA, Zimbabwe, Albania, Congo, New Zealand, Scotland and Mongolia.
