Group Stage

The U18s were playing their first game in the group stage of the League Cup.
At home to Howden Clough we only had 10 men due to late withdrawals due to work & injuries.
3-4-2 was the starting formation. We talked about not giving our opponents any early encouragement & what happens, penalty in the first few minutes & go 1-0 down.
We were soon back in the game when Benj King hit a free kick into the box. Louis Sterling timed his run to perfection & nodded past the keeper.
We soon took the lead when Ryan Clay broke free in the box & shot into the top corner.
We were well on top & playing some nice football in difficult windy conditions. The team held their shape well in midfield & looked solid at the back.
We went 3-1 up when Ryan put the keeper under pressure from a back pass. Louis Sterling picked up the loose ball & rifled the ball into the net from a tight angle.
3-1 at half time.
More of the same required for the 2nd half.
We took a grip on the game & went further ahead with the goal of the game. A cross from Aaron Morris was volleyed home from the edge of the box by Kai Milburn.
There was still time for Waqas Iqbal to score a precision finish with his left foot past the advancing keeper.
5-1 at full time.
