The U18s were playing their 1st game since November in a cup game against Greetland.
Our opponents sit mid table in the division above so the prematch team talk focused on the need to make a good start.
The lads took it on board & took the game by the stuff of the neck.
Our opponents were struggling to cope with the pace & movement of Waqas Iqbal & Louis Sterling. It was these 2 guys who opened the scoring.
Louis was played through & cooly finished 1 on 1 with the keeper.
Great combination play on the edge of the box saw Waqas with another cool 1 on 1 finish. The 3rd goal came from a Waqas corner to the near post which was met with a 1st time volley from Louis.
We should have had another goal earlier with another great finish from Louis. The ball hit the wheel on the goal behind the line, rolled across the line & hit the other post. Unfortunately the ref who had a poor game disallowed it.
3-0 at half time.
More of the same requested by the manager in the 2nd half.
For the first 15 minutes we started trying to overdo things & hold on to the baal too long. The lads soon realised it wasn't working & got back to the game plan. A ball into the channel was chased down by Louis & his cross was finished from close range by Ryan Clay.
Ayden Ambrose was having his best game of the season & a great pass put Louis clear to complete his hat trick.
The team were in total control & the passing & movement was some of the best we've seen this season. Luke Meadows had started at left back, moved in to midfield & then up front. His versatility was rewarded when he was put clear & chipped the ball over the advancing keeper in to the empty net.
6-0 at full time. Some great football with every player contributing.
Man of the Match Louis Sterling.
