Top of the table clash today for the U18s against Salts.
Our opponents beat us earlier in the season but a win for us would mean a play off for the title.
A few enforced changes due to injuries & work commitments meant a change in formation. We made a nervous start & Salts looked a lot hungrier than us. We were getting caught on the ball too often & one or two players were unable to stand up to the physical challenge.
A couple of defensive lapses & we were 2-0 down with a mountain to climb.
The half time team talk was more about effort & desire. We felt the lads had been bullied & it was time to step up to the plate.
Credit to the lads they did just that. Louis Sterling was put clear & it needed a good save from the keeper to stop us scoring. We were then awarded a penalty after a scramble in the box. The keeper pulling back one of our players just as he was about to score. It should have been a red card but not even a yellow. To rub salt in the wound the keeper saved the penslty.
We got on the score sheet with 15 mins to go Sterling getting played in & hitting the bottom corner of the net.
We pushed on trying for the equaliser but didn't quite have the quality to carve out the chances. As we pushed on we were thankful at the other end to man of the match Benj King for some last ditch defending.
It's been a good season overall only losing 3 games.
It feels disappointing that 2 of the losses were the last 2 games, a cup final & a title decider. Hopefully the lads will learn from it, pick themselves up & go again next year.
Well done lads, look at the season overall & be proud of how you've played..
