With a much changed team for the 2nd week running due to regulars being injured or unavailable, the players who were available put the game to bed within the first 45 minutes as Wyke attacked down the slope on the small pitch.
Wyke took an early lead when Matty Conway latched onto a Joe Walshe throw in to go clear and score the opener. Not long after Wyke were 2 up when Matty Conway doubled the lead with a clinical finish inside the area. Wyke rode their luck when 2 nil up when Leeds Mods should have converted a goal line scramble after Hayden Fox had made the initial save and somehow between himself and Chris Davis managed to keep the ball from crossing the line whilst under pressure from the Leeds Mods attackers.
Wyke strengthened their advantage further when Liam Hartley scored his first goal for the 1st team when he got on the end of a Martyn Hall cross to send Wyke 3 nil up. Wyke made sure of the 3 points when Matty Conway clinically finished once again to complete his hat trick just on the stroke of half time.
Leeds Mods came out of the blocks at the start of the 2nd half fast as expected with the advantage of the slope. Wyke soaked up the pressure in the first 10 minutes and then started to compete again and were guilty of missing real chances to make the score line even worse for the opponents.
Leeds Mods got a sniff of a comeback when Wyke failed to clear a cross after chances to do so and the ball fell to a Leeds Mods player 12 yards out who placed the ball into the net. Leeds Mods got further encouragement when with 15 minutes remaining a Leeds Mods player met a corner at the near post and glanced into the far post to make it 4-2 and offer a glimmer of a comeback.
Wyke though saw out the remaining minutes that were left to record a comfortable 4-2 win and leapfrog Rawdon Old Boys to take back top spot in the division.
Matty Conway received the MOM award for his hat trick but credit must also go the other players who hadn't played together regularly, if at all and makes for some decisions to be made next Saturday at home against Broughbridge with the expected return of some regular players.
