Bess in squad, Moeen and Bairstow fail to make reserves.

England have named a 13-ma squad for the first test against the Windies which starts on 8th July at the Rose Bowl.

9 Reserves have also been named as cover for the squad and they will remain in the England team "Bubble". While Dom Bess has been rewarded for his effort in South Africa, edging out Jack Leach and Moeen Ali it is also interesting that neither Moeen or Bairstow even make the reserves. Ben Foakes is the reserve wicketkeeper and James Anderson is set to make his return from injury.

Joe Root is taking the test off for the birth of his second child, so Ben Stokes will skipper the side.

England squad: Ben Stokes (capt), James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

Reserves: James Bracey, Sam Curran, Ben Foakes (wk), Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone.

Wyre Cricket Club Update
The Palace Shield has been contacting all clubs with a view to clarify plans for a reduced league format starting late July/early August. There remains quite a bit of reshuffling of teams and there are a number of teams who are down as "tentative" - likely due to either unavailability of an outground or a drop in a number of available players. There has been no firm word on the potemtial match format, however the mood music from the Palace Shield previously was that they would like to have a longer format games (as close to usual Palace Shield league games as possible e.g. 40 overs). However, the ECB guidence must be taken into account and shorter games have been mooted as an aid in social distancing. Wyre CC intend to enter 2 teams into the revised competition as usual.

It does appear that the Palace Shield officials are doing their best to finalise arrangements as soon as is practicable and this is definately a positive. We will keep you posted with any further updates.
