The picture here shows the two teams outside the new clubhouse at Corbridge opened today after the old one was flooded in December 2015.
Yapham girls side battled a broken toe, the captain recovering from asthma and being one team member down through late illness to put up a great team performance against a well-drilled Corbridge side.
Good fielding and teamwork by all and excellent wicket keeping shared by Tess & Abi, which included a notable catch off the last ball of the Corbridge innings, kept the target achievable, with wickets falling steadily after the dismissal of the Corbridge captain and opener for 42. The honours of the day for bowling go to Maya who took three wickets for 1 run in two overs against opposition that was reminiscent of David & Goliath. It made for an exciting finish to the Corbridge innings, which finished on 89-6 thanks to their opener who hit some well-timed shots.
The steam rally on the adjacent field and a change of wind direction made for some interesting batting conditions for Yapham as they went out. There was some excellent very solid defensive batting and Yapham took their chances for every single, but the Corbridge bowling allowed for little or no runs in some overs - especially the Corbridge captain, who got 3 wickets for 2 runs - and Yapham finished all out for 44 in the last over.
There was great support from parents and Scarlet had every reason to celebrate her birthday with some fine bowling!
