Under 11’s season round-up

Yapham U11’s enjoyed a great season in both the league and cup competitions.

In the league the U11’s won six matches, lost two and had one game cancelled. The two losses were early in the season when the team were still finding their feet and it’s fair to say that as the season progressed the U11’s became almost unbeatable! A highlight was finishing the league season with an excellent win over a previously unbeaten York side (who also won the cup).

In the cup competition the U11’s made a thrilling run to the semi-finals where they lost to Londesborough Park. In the earlier rounds they had beaten Wheldrake and Dunnington and the families and supporters of the team were just getting used to the Friday evening games when the cup run came to an end!

The players should also be praised for the way they played the game and the team spirit they showed all season. All the players constantly supported and encouraged each other and there is no doubt this helped with the success the team achieved.
Every player who turned out for the U11’s this year made a contribution to the team and should be proud of their efforts. Most of the players also turned up regularly for training and many attended the indoor sessions in the winter which now seem a long time ago!

Thanks should go to the Team Manager Tom Connell and the coaches and parents who helped the team during the season and gave up their free time. Thanks also to all the parents and family members of the players who travelled to games to support the team and also took the players to training.

Most of the U11’s also turned out for the U13B team during the season and also enjoyed success with that team, while a few U11’s also played the occasional game for the U13A team who also had a very successful season.

Overall a great season; well done to everyone. Keep practising and look out for the start of winter training.
