David Hornby steps down as president

David Hornby steps down as president

Lauren Morgan

After 14 years at the helm of Yarnbury RFC, we say thank you our President, David Hornby, as he steps down from the role.

Fourteen years is an incredible length of time to serve as the figurehead of a rugby club, and David has given so much of his time, energy and passion to Yarnbury.

There have, of course, been lows along the way. Rugby is never without its challenges, and seeing the 1st XV relegated was undoubtedly a difficult period for everyone connected with the club. But when we look back over David’s 14 years, it is the highs that far outweigh the lows.

From the incredible honour of seeing Yarnbury compete at Twickenham, to seeing our 1st XV men earn promotion back into Yorkshire One, David has been there to share and celebrate some truly special moments.

He has also witnessed the continued growth and success of the club, including the addition of a thriving women’s team, the 1st XV men winning the Yorkshire Shield in 2025, and the senior men lifting the Yorkshire Trophy in 2019.

Our junior section has gone from strength to strength too, with a thriving group of young players and multiple junior finals providing some fantastic memories for players, coaches, parents and supporters alike.

But David’s contribution cannot simply be measured in trophies, promotions or memorable days. For 14 years, he has been a constant presence and a proud representative of Yarnbury RFC supporting the club, its players, coaches, volunteers and members through the good times and the difficult ones.

Being President is about being the figurehead of a club, and David has carried that responsibility with great pride and commitment. His time in the role has helped shape a period of enormous change, growth and achievement for Yarnbury.

David, on behalf of everyone at Yarnbury RFC, thank you.

Thank you for the countless hours, the commitment, the support and, above all, the passion you have shown for this club.

Fourteen years is a remarkable legacy, and we hope you look back with enormous pride at everything you have been part of.

From everyone at Yarnbury RFC thank you for everything, David, and enjoy your next chapter.

Once Yarnbury, always Yarnbury.
