Yarnbury progress in the Cup
Yarnbury stay in the cup after another successful win over Baildon courtesy of a Windridge-France double.
Knowing the rivalry between these two sides neither wanted their cup run to end. The last game Yarnbury played was the season finale against Baildon. Despite this being the second round of the Cup both teams didn’t play the first round with Roundhegians not being able to have a team against Yarnbury.
It was a tight start for both sides but Baildon were looking to get the better of Yarnbury. The men I. Red nearly had the first try when winger Luke Strauss made a darting run until he was put in touch by Yarnbury hooker Tom Whitfield. Baildon were awarded a penalty after Yarnbury lock Samuel Dodd was penalised for not rolling away and it was fly half Jake Duxbury who had a chance at three points, he struck the ball well over the posts to give his side a 3-0 lead. In a minute however, Yarnbury would respond brilliantly after full back Max Kennedy saw space showing great pace and then passed the ball to winger Joshua Bateson who scored the try. Yarnbury fly half Daniel Pound was on kicking duties as he managed to score the first conversion to extend Yarnbury’s lead. He would once again further that lead after Baildon winger Ben Shaw was penalised for coming in from the side and the fly half scored the penalty. It was really becoming a downward spiral for Baildon as lock Harry Walker would receive a yellow card after a high tackle. The men in blue would take the advantage when replacement Jem Windridge-France managed to crash through the Baildon defence to score a superb try. Pound would miss the conversion as the ball went wide. Yarnbury would also be reduced to 14 men and it was prop James Falgate who would see yellow due to being offside. Yarnbury would take a 15-3 lead at halftime.
At start of the second half Baildon were disallowed another try when full back William Eastells managed to get through for the try but Yarnbury centre Max Lee managed to make him knock the ball on as it would be a scrum to Yarnbury. After a few disallowed tries Baildon would finally get their first when Walker managed to burrow his way through to score but Duxbury missed the conversion. But Yarnbury would hold strong and a few minutes later Max Lee would score a try after managing to breakthrough the Baildon defence. Pound would miss the conversion. Baildon would bounce back, and it was Ben Shaw who would get his eventual try followed by a conversion from replacement Barry Kerrigan. Once again Yarnbury would respond back well and it was a second try for Windridge-France after shrugging off a Baildon player to get the ball down. Pound would score a superb conversion right from the touch line. After a tough few minutes, the final whistle went as Yarnbury would go through to the next round of the Cup with them travelling to Ripon. Final score Yarnbury 27, Baildon 15.
