Yarn bury 1st XV v Old Brods 1st XV

Yarnbury welcomed back Elis Gomersall on the left wing after injury and had Lee Mortimer on the right wing and Joe Pinnick came into the team at full back for this trip to Halifax and Brodleians sloping pitch.The pack was unchanged but James Falgate was replacement forward on the bech whilst Gerrard Huss came into the squad as the replacement back.Richard Lister was the replacement prop.The Horsforth side started down the pitch and with the slope and immediately took play to the bottom right corner to make the home side work up the hill!

For all the pressure the Brodeians line stayed in tact and the home side went up the field and were awarded a penalty converted by scrum half Matt Hoyle.Yarnbury were in the ascendecy down the slope and kept the pressure on and second row Ian Maycock took a ball down the blind side and a round the corner pass to left winger Elis Gomersall saw him outstrip the cover to score wide left but stand off Pound was short with the conversion.

Yarnbury were caught out down the middle when centre Nathan Scott got over luckily Hoyle missed the conversion but Brodleians had their noses infront up the pitch before more Yarnbury pressure saw in form Maycock go over on the top side when good ball from the pack and movement through centres Graham Maycock and Jason Avison got Ian Maycock racing for the line to score.An excellent conversion from stand off Danny Pound put Yarnbury back infront before substitute prop Reece Ward barged over for the second home try for an easy conversion and Yarnbury were penalised near the posts shortly after to extend the Brodleians lead only to be cut back to 15-15 from a Pound penalty shortly afterwards.

The second half saw Brodleians through the ball about in the backs and exposed gaps in a tiring defence from the Horsforth men.Brodleians scored two quick tries from wingers Ben Barron and Anton Gaughan both from gathering defensive kicks out from Yarnbury run back at pace into gaps.With the changes at half time and an injury to Lee Mortimer Yarnbury looked disorganised after a controlled first half butrallied for man of the match again Ian Maycock to force his way under the posts for Yarnbury’s only score in the second half before Brodleians scored further tries through Ward,Barron and Gaughn.

Tighter defence at North Ribblesdale is required next week in a crutial league fixture.
