match report by John Rawson

Yarnbury welcomed back influential second row James Falgate to bolster the pack along with prop Lewis Atha. The back row of Russ Gomersall, and Tom Fox also contained the youthful Lewis Wray at open side flanker after a knock the previous week.Alec Clark returned on the wing and the centre pairing was Captain Stephen Riley and Connor Moreton giving the side a solid look for the contest against a solid looking Brodeians side who had USA prop Brian Pritchard and Ukrainian centre Michael Grab added to their squad this season.

Yarnbury applied early pressure but the five metre scrum was disrupted. From an attacking scrum for the visitors Yarnbury broke out down the left side by wing Graham Maycock and the home side failed to convert the chance. The defensive line was impressive and much improved on the previous week against a much harder foe and the game was evenly balanced. A speculative punt up the middle of the park bounced kindly for the opposition and full back Matty Hoyle calmly cross kicked for the unmarked wing Tom Wilson to score wide left.Second Row and Captain converting well to give the visitors the lead which was soon increased with a kick through for flanker Bob Sykes to touch down for a converted try again by Ackroyd.Yarnbury were not effected and again pressed for a score and unluckily from another attack Brodleians intercepted a pass for winger Wilson to score his second try converted by Ackroyd.Yarnbury had their ‘pockets picked ‘ in three breakaway’s and only had a Danny Pound conversion to show for a spirited first half.Breaks from scrum half Chris Clarke, wing Graham Maycock and hooker Harry Mincello looked impressive but were not converted into points.

Not to be deterred they brought on Kieran Davies in the centre for Captain Stephen Riley to add some pace and attacking threat in an effort to retrieve the game and Tom Holden in the second row for the injured Ian Maycock. However, the Horsforth side were undone at a penalty with Ukrainian Centre Mark Grab scoring from close range .Ackroyd converting and then Dan Georgiou got in down the left hand side with little room to work.Yarnbury responded well and the impressive Jack brown showed his pace from full back to score an excellent try converted by pound to get Yarnbury on the board and show the opposition they needed to work hard for their superiority.Yarnbury continued to attack looking for further tries and Russ Gomersall managed to take the final pass to get over for a consolation try after a hard working display converted by Pound following a final score from hooker Greg Ashton.

Another defeat for the Horsforth men but with enthusiasm and commitment for future games then Yarnbury will secure a win soon.
