Keighley 41 v Yarnbury 33 – Yorkshire 1 League
In an exiting game at Keighley Yarnbury went down fighting against possibly the strongest opposition assembled on the day scoring five tries to eight by the opposition and were relegated to Yorkshire 2 League for next season.
Yarnbury were at full strength for this must win clash with a strong Keighley side who were playing as their lives depended on it for their retiring Coach in front of a big crowd for the final league game of the season. With Selby at Scarborough and North Ribblesdale at home to high flying West Leeds ,Yarnbury had the toughest fixture to get the win they needed to stop in the top Yorkshire Division. The pack could look after itself against a beligerent and determined Keighley side whereas the young backline would have to defend well to keep out the big backline of home grown Keighley players and a smattering of players with Keighley Cougars experience.Yarnbury welcomed back their Captain Jimmy Cryan at back of the pack and stand in Captain Jason Avison out with injury also for a long stretch who did so much for the team leading by example throughout most of the season.
