Yarnbury 29- West Park 17 – Yorkshire League 2

Nearly half of the season gone Yarnbury remain unbeaten after eleven games and use of 42 players.A credit to their quality and team ethic in Yorkshire Two League.Yarnbury have stood up and been counted to all their opponents and came through in the games latter stages victorious. This win against local rivals West Park who visited Brownberrie lane in this latest fixture were up for the challenge and were worthy opponents but Captain Jason Avison lead his team to victory and a five win bonus with five tries to overpower the Bramhope hopefuls' in the final quarter showing the confidence which comes with such an unbeaten run.

Yarnbury started with ex colts Ben Meays on the right wing and Josh Bateson at full back adding extra pace to the back line..The pack had a familiar look only James Falgate missing in the second row Adam Batson taking his place.

Playing into a wind meant they were defending to start in their own half but were prepared to move the ball around and only kick as a last resort from the boot of stand off Jarrod Huss. After early pressure which came to nothing West Park took an early lead with a penalty from Calum Smithson after Yarnbury infringed before Yarnbury got into their stride with slick quick passing putting Josh Bateson in at the corner to take the lead with an unconverted try.Further Yarnbury pressure was spoilt when breaks from James White and Josh Bateson resulted in knock – on’s
as Yarnbury looked to run the ball into the winf rather than give it away.West Park defence was up quickly to stifle the ball in the middle of the park and with Yarnbury loosing the ball in the tackle stopped momentum.West Park took advantage and scored a try Centre Sam Holton backing up for a try close in converted by Smithson.Yarnbury were not to be outplayed applied the pressure and from a penalty line out and ruck No8 Jimmy Cryan burst through the pack to reach the try line to put Yarn bury back on parity with Huss converting at 10-10.The game was fairly even at this stage but Yarnbury would have the wind advantage in the second half.

West Park took the lead from close in when the pack managed to drive over the line from a five metre scrum Captain Andy Booth touching down for a converted try. With Ian Maycock and Adam Batson reliable in the line out Yarnbury were able to control ball for their backs and the threat was always there out wide with good runs from wingers Jack Brown and Ben Meays. It was not long for Yarnbury to reply when back row forward Martin Rainey was on the end of a close in move to score in the corner.Huss converting from the touch line to tie the scores at 17-17.

The final quarter was when Yarnbury showed their character and confidence when they cemented the fourth try with the move of the match .Quick hands spreading the play and stretching the Park defence for the final ball to the supporting fly half Jarrod Huss to score wide right. His conversion hitting the post from the touchline! However the bonus point for the four tries assured Yarnbury made their superior fitness and lasting power count pressing for an impressive win when concerted pressure down the left allowed the strength of prop Lewis Atha to burst through a tiring defence to score out on the left hand side and with the help of the wind Huss converted to rub salt in the wounds of their local opponents.
