1st Game 2015

A lovely sunny October morning saw the U12’s team take on Morley for the first game of the new season. The pitch was in excellent condition and there was no wind.

Due to a number of injuries and prior commitments, the U12’s were reduced to a squad of 16. It was agreed the match would be played over four 15 minute quarters with the refereeing rotating each quarter, starting with Yarnbury.

The first quarter was high scoring but fairly even, with Morley scoring twice either side of an excellent try by Ciaran Downs.

Yarnbury used their three substitutes at the start of the second quarter. This quarter saw the final score of the game, where Morley got their third converted try early on bringing the score to 21-5 in Morley’s favour. This was a penalty try awarded by the Morley referee!

The third quarter saw the match get rather heated and physical. Halfway through saw a brilliant interception from Jonny Sutcliffe which uplifted Yarnbury’s spirits.

The start of the fourth quarter was preceded by a talk from the Yarnbury referee advising all players to keep their emotions in control. This quarter saw some excellent running from the whole of the Yarnbury team, meaning they finished very strongly and looked the better team.

There were a number of good performances by the Yarnbury team, in particular Ciaran Downs, Ethan Heade, Jonny Sutcliffe, Dan Butterfield and Ben Foster. However the outstanding player of the match was Grace Pennington. She had an exceptional tackling game and also made good yardage with the ball in hand, well done Gracie!

All in all a good first game of the season against a particularly physical Morley team.
