First game of the season v York provides great entertainment

So the season is here, and the first game is upon us against a strong York U12 side.

Previous seasons have seen York U12 give the Yarnbury lads a tough game and today was no exception.

With some new faces in the ranks and some apathetic efforts in training the first game's result was anyone's guess!

Yarnbury had virtually a full strength squad to pick from and choosing the starting 12 was a difficult one. Those that took to the field knew they had to put a shift in to compete with a big York team.

Having agreed to play 4 x 15 min quarters the game started with attrition. Tackling by both teams was excellent and the Blue machine soon got into the swing of things.

Early penalties for high tackling saw both teams pushing for the opening try, but it was Yarnbury who made early headway with a nice score.
Another followed making it 2-0 to the Blue men.

York attacked well and gained a deserved try of their own: the score was now 2-1.

The Yarnbury defence was as good as had been seen for a while. York kept attacking but we kept them at bay.

Substitutions were made for the 2nd quarter and the change in personnel gave a great account of themselves, Some new boys on debut really had a dig with the half ending 3-1 to Yarnbury after a superb try down the wing after great handling.

The 3rd quarter saw a return for some of the starting line up although York managed to get another score to make it 3-2.

Going into the last quarter and everything to play the game was on!

York managed to squeeze over out wide after a kick chase and some great feet by their winger.
The game swung to the Blue men after great pressure deep in the York half resulted in an interception try for Yarnbury.

A late attacking effort by York was thwarted by stern Yarnbury defence resulting in a turnover. The blue men pushed on and were unlucky not to get a try of their own. With seconds to play York kicked deep but great covering saw the ball go into touch and the final whistle blew.

Yarnbury victors by 4 tries to 3. A great start to the season.

Ripon awaits next week!
