Under 9's do it again in a 4 game win

The Under 9's continued again where they had left off the previous week.

The new kit had arrived and the boys were looking swish, ready to play for that jersey..

Our visitors this time were Sandal RFC, who in previous years had been difficult opponents in the world of tag rugby. Not so this fine Sunday morning.

After a clear start to the day, the clouds soon moved in and a few specs of rain could be felt. This wasn't going to deter the lads, and they started off as they continued for the rest of the morning. That would be tackling and scoring tries.

As we both had roughly 2 teams each but only 1 pitch, we agreed to play 8 aside and for 15 mins of just one half per game. This would allow 4 games to be played in the 1 hour or so time frame.

The first game set the tone for the rest of the morning, and with a slight downhill advantage the Yarnbury boys set about their "Whitewash" mission. Tackling was again outstanding with the reliable Joseph Horan crunching the opposition with his slight frame. He did well not to react to a "very late" tackle by Sandal and used the anger to score shortly after. Alfie Suggitt ensured that no-one would sneak round the outside and the middle was closed up by a tenacious group including Freddie Falks and Perry Lewty. 2 players who really stood out were Josh Hill and Alex Beldon with much improved (again) appetite for defence.

The boys had been asked to pop the ball from the ground when they were tackled so we could play a faster game, and they obliged with interest. Great passing and movement saw the boys score more tries than Sandal and therefore a WIN.

The next match was against some of the bigger Sandal players and they were a handful with Harry Thackray doing his best to tackle them all! There was a new boy turning out for Yarnbury today in Jacob Brown. Having not played the game for a few years Jacob aquitted himself well and can only get better with more training and game time.
Again the defence was great which matched our attack in intensity. Yarnbury again came away with the win.

The final 2 games showed much that the 1st 2 had delivered. Great aggression in defence resulting in several 7th tackle turnovers, quite a rare thing at this age group.
The boys attack was again swift and having mastered the "pop" pass from the ground, were able to speed up out attacking play. This resulted in some great tries including a couple of long range efforts by Perry Lewty.

A special mention must go to Tom Peat who not only had his best game in Yarnbury colours, but managed to cross the whitewash 7 times! Great effort Tom.

All in all, a great morning of rugby by both rugby clubs.

Onwards next week against Leeds Corrinthians.
