Yarnbury lose their first game of the season

This weeks game was against our old adversaries, Bramley.

These have always been interesting fixtures, regardless of age group and so we expected a physical encounter.

Owing to Bramley having a much smaller playing base than Yarnbury has the luxury of, they arrived with a joint u9 and u10's team.

Our boys were not fazed by the prospect of playing against Year 5 opposition, although they could only field a maximum of 3 u10's at any one time.

Owing to some late withdrawls and unavailable players we could choose from a squad of only 14 this week, meaning we would have one team with plenty of substitutes.

The team was chosen for the first 1/4 and boys were ready for the off. There were some big lads on the Bramley team, but we told the Yarnbury boys to just get stuck in.

So the match began, and Bramley managed to get an early score on the board. Yarnbury then settled into their game and showed some great defence to hold them out. After some good interplay, the ball went to ground and Bramley then went on to score another. End of the 1/4 time to change the team.
5 changes were made and they started great, defending like troopers and putting bodies on the line. Yarnbury knew they were in a tough match, although Bramley only really had 3 game breakers in their team.
Yarnbury scored next and we were now back in the game. Defense turned into attack. The heavy pitch stifled some of our normally quick play and impeded on our speed men.
Half time.
The 3rd period saw the original team back onto the field and the scoreline was back and forth. Some great last ditch tackles made the game really exciting and we headed in to the final 1/4 trailing 4-2.
Again the teams were changed. Up steppeth Callum Hyland. The speedster himself. After having already 2 great tries Callum managed to find a bit of space and shot down the wing to score a great try. Game on at 4-3. The boys made some slick passes and a cheeky offload to by Freddie F allowed joseph to sneek through a gap and head down the line. After stepping inside, a high tackle gave another set of 6. After trying both sides of the pitch to attack, Logan Simpson squeezed through to make the score 4-4. This was it. Unfortunately Bramley scored 2 late tries which mean our unbeaten run was halted.

A great effort by all and some mentions have to go out to the boys:

Josh Hill - Under the weather, took a few hits to the head but still soldiered on.
Tom Peat - Great running and got stuck in to tackling
Alfie Suggit - Winded early on, but bounced back with mazy runs and great tackling
Harry Thackray - Corner flag try saving tackle. Nuff said.
Dillon Thorp - Brave as always. Heart of a Lion.
Logan Simpson - Realised the benefits of using his teammates in attack. Tackled well
Freddie Falkingham - Massive effort as ever. Never took a backward step.
Perry Lewty - Tried his best as always. Just couldn't find the gaps today. Tackled well again
Joseph Horan - Tackled well as always, tried a few moves but didn't have as much space as usual.
Reuben Brown - Had a few runs and kept going.
Evin Bollon - In a dream world, but then woke up and was the best tackler today.
Jacob Brown - Improving each week.
Callum Hyland - Excellent speed and awareness. 3 great tries. Tackled well.
Rufus Halliday - Good effort and tried to find the gaps. Got stuck onto tackling.
Grayson Oldridge - A little subdued today, was involved in most things though.

Can the boys get back on the horse next week at Huddersfield? The location of our tournament win last year!
