A tough day playing 3 matches, but worth it for the win.

Having played at Roundhegians the previous day for one of the senior teams, i knew the weather would be a tough opposition!

The wind was blowing and it was a bit chilly.

Roundhegians managed to field 3 teams so the Yarnbury boys had plenty of rugby to play.

Again we split the teams evenly which not all clubs do, some have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd team. This was evident today.

Yarnbury A played the Hegians 1st team in the opening game. Welcome to tough rugby boys!
It was evident from the off that they would have it tough (not helped by being half a sleep as well!) and they had a lesson in running the ball in hard.

It was probably the biggest team they had played against and they weren't ready for the physical encounter. For some reason we were hanging off tackles and not getting stuck in like they usually do.

Fair play to Hegians, they played really well and gave it to us. The result was 6-1 to them.

The Yarnbury B team played one of the other Hegians teams and faired better. Putting in a good performance and coming out victorious.

The 2 subsequent games for Yarnbury A were business as usual with the tackling having improved and the passing actually talking place. Too many silly offloads had crept into the first game. They managed to win both games with some ease and looked something like a team that can play rugby. Defense was again key and they used this to the max which enabled their attacking game to flourish.

The Yarnbury B team won their 2nd game, again playing some great rugby and tackling well. The 3rd game was against the Hegians 1st team and they were beaten just like the Yarnbury A team had been. We couldn't deal with the physical presence of their big lads.

It was a good learning curve for both our teams, and showed them that they have to pressure teams with bigger players. And they can do it!

All in all it was a 4-2 victory in games and they knew that they had been in a match!
