The Great English Revival Begins

Morley turned up, a little pensive and a few men down but coach Lydon saved the day suggesting we share a few of our very capable players to bolster the Morley pack.

There were some distinctive and puzzling dummies thrown - I am not talking about lads getting upset – but effective distracting fake passes deployed by the boys from restarts which constantly left Morley dismayed and looking the wrong way – I really thought they might cotton on after the first 6 or 7 times but no, you‘d be surprised.

Harry Smith seems to have come to the understanding that the open areas of the Yarnbury Prairie belongs to him. A broad arched running style produced several tries displaying his superior pace and elegant running style. Remember the name Harry Smith and Danny Sugden the provider for many of the Smith excursions.

Many of the new lads began to show their worth, including solid strong performances from Aiden Curbison and Dominic Marsland who both look like they could form an intimidating line up alongside Evan Wade Joe Miles, and Lydon the younger if and when they ever start to form the boiler house of this amazingly talented junior side.
Try of the day goes to new boy Leon Partington. Once he had figured out the correct direction to aim his sights, he drew a bead on the unguarded Morley flank and sprinted his way ¾ the length of the pitch unopposed until producing a natural sidestep to avoid the three Morley players sharp enough to attempt to cut off his attack – very dextrous for such a big unit. Encouraging.

A big mention to Aiden Curbison for making his family cut short their holiday break to ensure he did not miss the first match of his first season. Commitment such as this bodes well for the team and often proves infectious amongst his cohorts.

Jem Cassini and Angus Hillyard formed a well balanced exchange of attacking powers, combined with searching penetrative runs from Liam Ewan the coaching skills of A. Lydon are shinning through.

Tom Russell and Ethan Kerr both assisted Morley in a selfless display of the ethos required to become a rugby star. Kerr seemed to enjoy picking out his team mates on charging runs whereas the hips of the youngest player in our illustrious line up seemed to dethatch on occasion, baffling the Yarnbury backs as he swerved his way down the pitch to produce several tries for the opposition..... noted.

A fantastic spectacle for the crowds and in the end Rugby won the day. Scores not noted to protect the lads who helped out the Morley team.
