Late changes unsettle the Hornets

Yarnbury’s afternoon started badly as they lost influential centre Jack Myerscough in the warm up, returning from injury winger Rob Rigby took the 13 shirt and Tom Bowman filled in on the flank.

The Hornets woes were compounded when the kick off went straight into touch and the resultant pressure led to a try for York’s right winger.

On 15mins fly half Daniel Pound slotted a penalty after sustained pressure on the visitors try line.

Five minutes later a further Pound penalty gave the Hornets the lead.

The next score went to Rob Rigby, scoring under the posts after a jinking run through centre field, Pound adding the extras.

York added the next points when the left winger scorched over after a 60 yard run leaving tacklers sprawled in his wake,The first score of the second half went to York York’s scrum half added the conversion.

Half time 13 – 12, all to play for.

The first score of the second half went to York, a penalty was kicked when Yarnbury were adjudged to be offside in front of the posts.
York then scored back to back tries in similar circumstances, poor tackling allowed their powerful backline easy scores and the game was seemingly gone from the home side, 13 – 29.

At this point Tom Bowman was stretchered off with a leg injury.

Yarnbury took the game to York and were rewarded with a try by Tom Whitfield after a penalty was awarded close to York’s line.
The clock was ticking down when at last a flowing backs move led to a try for Jarrod Huss the fullback joining the line at pace for a fine score to delight the crowd, the score now 23 – 29.

The crowd were then silenced as York sealed the win with a try in the dying seconds to make the final score 23 – 34.

The Hornets were unsettled by the loss of Myerscough, which unbalanced the side, but fair play to York who are a very good side despite the bewildering display of different socks on display.
