Match Report by No.7 Callum Fawcett

Yarnbury 2s took an afternoon trip down to West Leeds. Hot and dry conditions made hard going for both teams. The nice weather did allow for some expansive rugby. Yarnbury 2s hadn’t had a runout together yet, as it was he start of the season but, they produced a performance, that saw them win the game 34-15.

Gilly’s words echoed in the ears of the Yarnbury team. All they needed to do was, keep the ball. Which is exactly what wing Adam Roebuck did 15 meters from the corner flag, 6 minutes into the start of the first half. Conversion attempt unsuccessful. From then on, a period of play, strung along by several penalty kicks from West Leed’s gathetered their tally up to 9 points, with Yarnbury feeling the heat from their own penalty count. The referee was quick to call offside, for anything reasonably marginal. Yarnbury did bounce back with a try from their lineout, which, was scored by Yarnbury’s Tank. Yarnbury defended well and with the help of, Luke Cowley, attacked well from deep. Yarnbury’s midfield were dynamic and offered, a change of pace, in the attack. Lez slaved away at 9, providing quick ball which, saw him score a sniping try.

The Yarnbury forwards carried well and offered plenty of horsepower. James Daffern carried well especially. Much must be said that Yarnbury’s youth, proved their metal. Turnovers, tackles, carries, the boys did well. Roebuck in for a second, helped Yarnbury seal the win. Tom (Chris Paterson) Goldthorpe checked off the conversions.

West Leeds were a good match for the 2s. They kicked very well and kept their ball, for long periods of time. Ben Andrew’s first game, was bl**dy good and will have pleased; Managers D.Newby and R.Gomersal. They will have been pleased with the performance. Next week is a rest week for Yarnbury 2s but, Coach B.Hood will have something for the boys.
