REPORT: Yate Town 1-1 Moneyfields (5-3 on penalties)

By Sebastian Parker

Dramatic semi final victory sets up Bank Holiday final with Cinderford

Yate Town 1 Moneyfields 1 (After Extra Time)

Yate win 5-3 on penalties

Not a game for the faint-hearted but the desired result was achieved. A nervy first half gave way to a frenetic second before extra time failed to separate the sides and it all came down to five cool customers to set up Monday's decider with Cinderford Town, writes John Davis.

Moneyfield's high line and intense pressing gave them the advantage in a largely uneventful first half. Ross Grimshaw dealt capably with several ground shots while at the other end Steve Mawthorpe was a virtual spectator.

Grimshaw did well to push over a Lewis Fennemore header as it threatened to creep under the crossbar and later Brett Poate hit a free kick just past the post after bending it around the wall.

The home side had a much greater share of the ball after the break as at last they began to string some passes together and threaten the opposition.

Ollie Mehew had a shot saved by Mawthorpe after being played through from midfield while at the other end Grimshaw watched carefully as a Steve Hutchings drive dipped over the angle between post and crossbar.

Nick Peare then fired just over from distance and Ross Langworthy headed off target when he got on the end of a long cross from Nick Humphreys.

Peare's free kick then troubled Mawthorpe but unfortunately the rebound fell awkwardly to Langworthy and he was unable to turn the ball goalwards.

The deadlock was finally broken in the first period of extra time, Langworthy breaking clear down the left before setting up Mehew who sent his low drive into the far corner.

Almost straight from the kick-off though the visitors were level as Gary Austin picked up a flicked header from the left before striking a powerful volley past Grimshaw.

Elliott Keightley took one for the team when he was shown a red card for a foul on the edge of the box and that's how it stayed until the penalty shoot out when it's as much about mental pressure and cool heads as the ability to strike a dead ball accurately.

Yate were given a huge boost when Hutchings struck the crossbar with his side's first effort before David Sims-Burgess, Langworthy, Mehew, Adam Price and Peare showed him the way to find the back of the net.

Man of the match was awarded to the whole squad and the management team. Entertainment rating 4/5.

Yate Town: Grimshaw, Humphreys, Keightley, Peare, Ford, Boulton, Price, Guest (Kamara 75 minutes), Mehew, Bryant (Langworthy 70 minutes), Twyman (Sims- Burgess 110 minutes). Subs not used: Evans, Brooks.
