REPORT: Yate Town 3-0 Slimbridge

By Sebastian Parker

Nick Peare steals the show with a classy hat-trick on his return from suspension.

Nick Peare scored a stunning hat-trick on his return from suspension as Yate Town returned to winning ways against Slimbridge.

Peare was having his own goal of the season contest with two contenders either side of the break before earning the match ball with a header.

Slimbridge made life difficult for Yate in the first 50 minutes and missed a glorious chance with the score at 1-0 but once the Bluebells got their second, it was one way traffic.

Olly Mehew and Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist also started for Yate while Lee Driver-Dickerson made two changes for Slimbridge as Christien Turner and Danny King came in for Finleigh Brown and Sam Mendes.

After a quiet first ten minutes, the hosts took the lead in the 14th minute in stunning style. Peare picked up the ball 25 yards out, turned his man and rifled in a shot with the outside of his foot which found the bottom corner.

The Swans fashioned a decent opportunity on when Liam Smith slipped Mark Magee through but Yate keeper Alexis Andre Jr got there first and managed to get his body in the way.

Yate will feel they should have doubled their lead four minutes later when Peare drove into the box and cut the ball across to Mehew who shifted it onto his left foot before firing in a shot but Lewis Adams pulled off a superb save to deny the forward.

That was nothing compared to the chance that came his way six minutes before half time. Adam Price put him through with a fine pass but he could only find the legs of Adams with a tame side-footed shot when he had the goal at his mercy and Yate went into the break with a slender lead.

Slimbridge had a great chance two minutes into the second half when Christien Turner hooked it goalwards from a free-kick but was denied by Andre Jr.

They were unlucky not to be level on 54 minutes when Jamie Martin struck the post after good work by Magee to find him.

It proved to be a decisive moment as Peare doubled Yate's lead six minutes later with another wonderstrike, this time a 30-yard piledrive that dropped beautifully into the bottom corner.

Yate turned the screw from their. There were appeals for a penalty when substitute David Sims-Burgess went down as he tried to round the keeper but he isntead found himself in the book for simulation.

That was quickly forgotten about on 69 minutes when Peare completed his hat-trick with a looping header from Adam Price's free-kick to put the game beyond Slimbridge.

Yate sealed a fine win to end their two match winless run and remain three points adrift of Blackfield and Langley.
