A dry day saw perfect conditions for a Yatton squad blessed with numbers to play free-flowing rugby. Yatton scored first when a visitors failed to clear their line from a defensive scrum, Luke Lincon's charge down was gathered by No.8 Dave Fry who went over in the corner. Man-of-the-Match Stu Brain narrowly missed the extras. Minutes later Yatton had a penalty in a similar position and a quick tap from Billy Mackay saw him score Yattons second try. Stu Brain this time slotting the first of his 8 conversions in the afternoon.
Yatton's 3rd try came as a result of a powerful driving maul rolling many meters upfield & Billy Mackay scored his second when he crashed over from a few meters. From then, with cheddar struggling, Yattons backline decided they wanted to get in on the action. Si Wright ran in from 50 meters once he broke through the Cheddar defence & went in under the posts. James Smith scored the first of his hat trick when he got on the end of some slick hand from Dave Hepworth & Adam Noble. James Smith scored his second and Adam Noble also got in the score sheet before halftime.
James Smith completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half when he went under the posts. 52-0 down Cheddar rallied to a final score of 71-12 with a much more competitive last half hour. Despite regular scores, the Vistors put a much more tough fight. Stu Brain scored his first when he broke through before Cheddar scored the first of their 2 tries. Cheddar scored again when Mike Bancroft went under the posts. Yatton let that be the only points the visitors would score and Sam Gilbody bundled his way over before Ian Spiller scored with the final action of the day. Captain Alun Harris was pleased to have such a large squad and good result in his first game in charge and will look to continue the momentum when the league starts next week away to Chew Valley III.
