Name Change for Club as Phoenix migrates to grow... to the New Home of Womens Football

Sometimes great needs to grow.
Sometimes you need to slip the shackles restraining your progress.

There’s no denying the incredible success the Netherton L&G Phoenix’s have achieved in the last 3 years.

From almost folding as a team, to having the largest growth in membership of any local Ladies and Girls Club, to achieving unprecedented success.

Two consecutive league titles at the highest level in the Cambridgeshire County Leagues.

A League and Cup double in 2021/22 season with an ‘Invincibles’ 100 % record

Reaching the Second Round Proper of the Women’s FA cup – and in doing so going further in the competition than the club has ever done, and going further than any other regional team including POSH Women.

These achievements have righty resulted in the promotion of the team into the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division 1 North for the 2022/23 season.

What makes these achievements even more astonishing is they have been achieved without the inclusivity of being part of a main club.

L&G Chairman Lee Martin comments ‘It’s been difficult having the status of a hirer of the facilities only at Netherton. As a result we’ve had certain restrictions to contend with. Not having choice of when we were able to train the teams, not being able to have our Development team play on the 3g, not being informed directly of key information impacting on ourselves – having to find out via social media. We set high standards for ourselves and all associated with our club and as we look to continually improve we felt a change was needed in order to maintain these behavioural standards. As a result we are delighted to announce the change in club name to Yaxley Phoenix Ladies FC and to associate ourselves with Yaxley FC for the forthcoming season.’

Yaxley FC Chairman Malcolm Clements commented ‘ Yaxley FC are delighted to welcome the Ladies as Yaxley Phoenix Ladies F.C to our club and are looking forward to working with you all.
We are looking forward to a future that see's the Game for Women and Men (Girls and Boys) develop through our progressive collaborative approach.’

Martin commented ‘Already the level of communication, the provision of preferred training slots, the facilities on offer and the welcome extended by Malcolm and Vice Chairman Dee Walker has been a breath of fresh air and is a demonstration of how inclusivity at a club should be done. We’re very happy with the change and what the future holds with such a forward looking and progressive leadership team who really value the development of the women’s and girls’ game. We’re excited at the prospect of being the new home of women’s football.’

If you’d like to be part of the New Home of Women’s Football then get in touch and watch out for details of the open training sessions starting soon.
