From the Cuckoo Nest | End of Season Roundup
A short but sweet final weekend of the season for the young Cuckoos. Here's how our sides signed off:
Under 8s
What a way to end the campaign. Pete's U8s saved some of their best for last - an action-packed final game full of excellent teamwork, real skill and plenty of goals.
A brilliant send-off to the season from a group that has given everything throughout. Well done to every one of them.
Under 9s
Adam and Callum's U9s finished the season on a real high with a great game and some brilliant goals.
They were handed a challenge on the day too - without their goalkeeper, players stepped up and filled in brilliantly, making some important saves to keep the team solid.
Strong all over the pitch from start to finish. A positive, confident way to close out the year.
Under 12s
The U12s ended their season with a commanding 2-0 victory over a disciplined and well-organised Glinton side.
It wasn't easy - Glinton were solid defensively and tough to break down - but Yaxley caused problems all afternoon through excellent effort, movement and creativity.
At the back, Harrison was commanding throughout with his distribution spot on, while Pawel produced a standout display - no-nonsense defending on both sides of the back three, constantly mopping up loose balls and reading the game superbly.
The two goals came from Mustafa, who was simply unplayable. His vision and football intelligence were far beyond his years - a stunning individual performance to cap off the season.
Player of the Match was shared between Pawel and Mustafa. A fitting end to what has been a remarkable development journey for this group.
That's a wrap on another season of junior and youth football at Yaxley FC. More to come.
