Another weekend of young Cuckoos rolling their sleeves up and delivering. From a revenge mission at Stamford to a season finale at AGP Park, here's how our sides got on:
Under 8s
Pete's U8s put in a fantastic performance with all six players going non-stop from the first whistle to the last. Energy, determination and great teamwork throughout - moving the ball well, creating chances with quick passing and confident dribbling, and never once giving up. What stood out most was the attitude: every player kept pushing, kept encouraging each other and played the whole game with big smiles on their faces. A real team performance full of effort, enthusiasm and improvement. Big well done to all six.
Under 9s
Another fantastic team performance from Adam's U9s - and some lovely goals to go with it. Built on great movement and quick passing, the whole squad showed superb effort, energy and determination from start to finish. This group just keeps delivering.
Under 12s
This one deserves to be talked about. Just weeks ago, Stamford beat the U12s 5-1. On Sunday, Yaxley went back and won 2-1 - and the response in between tells you everything about this group.
The opening goal was a thing of beauty: Melvin and Mustafa combining with slick link-up play and a real understanding of each other before Melvin calmly slotted home. The second came after Dylan was brought down in the box - he stepped up himself, fired the penalty left of centre and despite the keeper getting a hand to it, it went in. From there, Yaxley defended with real resilience, held firm as Stamford pulled one back, and saw it out to earn a thoroughly deserved victory.
Both goalkeepers were in top form throughout, while Pawel, Kyler and Nathan were rock solid at the back. The midfield and attack all played their part in a complete team display.
Player of the Match was shared between three players who were simply exceptional on the day: Nathan, Melvin and Dylan.
And to top it all off, a lovely moment after the final whistle, as the Stamford goalkeeper caught up with several of our players who attended the same primary school. Competitive on the pitch. Respectful and friendly off it. Exactly what youth football is all about.
Under 14s
The U14s rounded off what has been a brilliant first Eastern Junior Alliance season in style - a 3-1 friendly win over Bourne Town Reds at APG Park that showcased everything this side are about.
They were on the front foot from the start. Lukas Dirzius headed home a Riley Bond corner on 15 minutes to open the scoring, before Jack Burke doubled the lead just before half time with a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner. The neat, confident play continued after the break - Jack Bush having a strong influence on the game - before Ethan Griffin put the result beyond doubt with a stunning free kick from the edge of the box. Bourne grabbed a late consolation, but the 3-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of the day.
What a way to finish the season. These lads have given everything in their first EJA campaign, and they signed off exactly as they should.
Revenge missions, season finales and another weekend of young Cuckoos doing the badge proud. The Cuckoo Calls.
