Yaxley beat 9 men Daventry in controversial clash!

Dominic Paling31 Aug - 15:00

Match report: Yaxley vs Daventry

Yaxley came out 4-2 victors against a strong Daventry side.

Yaxley started the game on the back foot, struggling to get a hold of the ball and having to defend against the wind and a side playing direct football. However once Yaxley settled down, the first corner of the game found Ethan Plummer at the back post who tapped the ball into an empty net, putting the cuckoos 1-0 up in the 10th minute. The visitors then reacted and put Yaxley under pressure with long balls and a long throw into the box. Yaxley withstood the pressure until the 24th minute until a long throw resulted in the equaliser. Just over a minute later Daventry's Joe Blowers ran through Yaxley's defence, beating his men and firing into the bottom corner, putting the visitors 2-1 in a matter of seconds. Yaxley responded well, retaining possession and patiently trying to break down the Daventry defence. Spencer Haskins played a defence splitting pass to Frankie Webster, who squared it to Kobie Smith who only had the keeper to beat, putting the cuckoos level. This led to it being even at the break.

The second half was a very different game, Yaxley had the wind and started strongly. The Daventry players were losing discipline and this led to their captain being sent off by the referee for dissent, allowing Yaxley to have a one man advantage for the remaining 25 minutes... or so we thought. 10 minutes later Daventry goalkeeper Lewis Patching was dismissed for violent conduct, and Yaxley were awarded a penalty. Frankie Webster stepped up and his initial shot was saved, but he managed to lift the rebound over the substitute goalkeeper. Yaxley just had to keep the ball for the remainder of the game, which they did. Then a swift turnover turned defence into attack as Tommy Dear found himself in the box and he fired excellently past the keeper, putting the game to bed.

Wilks thought this was the perfect reaction from the defeat on Monday and was impressed by how his players coped against a strong , physical side. Yaxley now move onto to Tuesday evening as they travel to Pinchbeck in the Knockout Cup.
