Strong start to the season for all 3 sides

A month into the new season and it’s been a good opening start for the First Team who remain unbeaten with points dropped only at Bungay Town who scored a late equaliser 5 minutes from time to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw. An opening day win over Sprowston Athletic where Yelverton came from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2 with Chris Hall getting the winner on his debut was then followed by a 6-0 rout of Fakenham Reserves in which Dan King grabbed a hat rick. A straightforward 2-0 win over Easton on a baking hot day at Garrick was then followed by a 5-1 win over Norwich Utd U21’s this weekend with Lewis Clarry getting a hat trick after another good performance from the reliable front man. The Hoovers entertain Watton United this week looking to continue their good form and stay within close distance of Wymondham Town who top Division 1.

Having received a bye in the Senior Cup the First Team are yet to feature in Cup action. However, for the Reserves, an excellent win away at higher opposition Gayton Reserves in the League Cup saw them return from their long trip with their name in the hat for the second round. A Lewis Page penalty and goals from Luke Giles and Lewi Allen securing the win although this tie will be forever remembered in Yelverton minds for the presence of goalkeeper Phil Coult in a muddy Gayton goalmouth that afternoon after a fateful attempt at travelling to Barcelona for his stag do.

An unbelievable game on the opening night of the season saw the Ressies looking good for 3 points over Mulbarton Reserves with a 3-0 lead at half time with a brace from new boy James Melton either side of a Richard Bloomfield strike. However, local supporters got their money’s worth as an amazing second half turnaround saw Mulbarton pull level and then nick a last minute winner at the death. A great reaction over local rivals Poringland Reserves scoring 6 goals without reply soon followed before a 4-2 defeat at the hands of new boys Mutford and Wrentham again showed how competitive that division will be this season. A Luke Casey strike and Sammy Giacommelli’s first goal for the club helped to secure a win over AC Mill Lane Reserves before this weeks cup win. This week sees the Reserves travel to AC Mill Lane for the second time in 3 weeks although this time to play their First Team in the first round of the Junior Cup in which Stiff will be looking for his side to cause another upset against opposition 2 leagues higher.

The Sunday Side have made a solid start to the campaign and sit 3rd in Division 4 of the Norwich and District Sunday League having drawn 2-2 at Sprowston Rovers and had a good 5-0 win this weekend at home Sprowston Utd with Simon Curtis and Steffen Bassett both grabbing a brace and Tony Driscoll also netting.
