Yendys u14 Neptune v Barr Beacon Stars

The girls took on the final match of 2017 as the League Champions but certainly weren’t in the mood to treat the game as a friendly.

The first quarter and the girls immediately showed why they were the Champions with some quality netball. Jess making her debut appearance for Yendys settled in straight away and went about intercepting several Barr Beacon centre passes to give Yendys the advantage. Passes between Evie H, Evie J, Kitty and Phoebe all appeared effortless and the two Izzys were a strong force in defence. The goals started to flow, and the first quarter finished 9-1 to Yendys.

The 2nd quarter began with a few changes, Jenevieve went to GK, Evie H WD, Izzy C C, Jess WA and Evie J GA. The girls continued to apply pressure on their opponents with Jenevieve, Izzy M and Evie H making it difficult for Barr Beacon to get past them to their attacking circle. Again, the flow of play down the court by the girls was seamless providing Kiertan and Evie chances to put the shots away ending at half time 19-4.

The 3rd quarter and another slight change with Phoebe now in GS position. The girls continued to work hard with more great netball played down the court enabling Phoebe to score in the first 20 seconds. All the girls were playing well finding space and squeezing Barr Beacon players, so they had limited options. The quarter ended 30-5.

The final quarter and some changes with Kiertan in GS Phoebe in GA. This was the strongest quarter which ensured the stars didn’t shine. The girls continued to showcase a precise flowing style of play at pace down the court followed by some accurate shooting which pushed up the score line. Some intelligent recycling of the ball was demonstrated in and around our attacking circle to ensure optimum positions were obtained for Kiertan and Phoebe who were making no mistake with their shots. The defence held firm throughout the quarter and were the catalyst for flowing moves up the court whilst ensuring Barr Beacon chances were limited. The final score an impressive 43-6.

Umpires Player of the match Izzy Mason, Players player of the match Izzy Cunnington. Congratulations to Jess on a great debut.
The girls are now officially league winners taking the maximum points from all matches.
