Yendys u14 Neptune v Barr Beacon Flares

After a few weeks without a match Neptune were back to business against the flares. The first quarter saw the defence providing a solid screen with Evie H pressuring the WA and Tia intercepting shots near to the opposition attacking circle. Some great play in and around our attacking circle allowed Kiertan and Phoebe to get 4 goals a piece in the first quarter which ended 8-3.

The 2nd Quarter started with Jenevieve now in WD in place of Evie H. The team scored within seconds of the start and this set the tone for the rest of the quarter. Kiah, Tia and Jenevive put on an impressive defensive display intercepting several balls and turning them to Neptune’s advantage. Izzy and Evie J combined well on the outskirts of the attacking circle to support Kiertan and Phoebe, who used some effective recycling of the ball to create and finish some good shooting chances. The gap in the score line began to increase and at half time the score was 24-6.

The 3rd quarter had a couple of changes with Evie H in WA in place of Evie J. The team continued to display a smooth direct passing style of play down the court to allow Kiertan and Phoebe to showcase some impressive shooting skills. Lots of interceptions were made by Tia and Izzy however the Flares were able to add 5 goals to their tally. The 3rd quarter finished 35-11.

The 4th quarter began with Evie J in C in place of Izzy. The defence were well on top with Jenevieve and Kiah intercepting balls that appeared to be a threat. Tia was quick to reclaim balls on the rebound before finding a pass to a team mate. The Flares were now in danger of being extinguished as they began to struggle in possession. This pressure did ultimately show as the opposition were closed down and forced into a held ball. Both Evie’s were full of energy, covering the court area as they chased down play at every opportunity which resulted in Phoebe and Kiertan putting away more shots. A strong finish to the quarter saw the game end 44-13.

Umpires Player of the match was awarded to Evie Jones and Players Player given to Phoebe Clear.
