Yendys u13 v Foxes

In a change to our original fixture the u13's were playing the Foxes having recently drawn to them 17-17 on the 5th November.

The girls appeared to be carrying forward the momentum from the game played the previous day and were straight at the opposition who had the first centre. Within 20 seconds the girls were marking the opposition so tight they were unable to find a passing option and forced a held ball. The girls took full advantage and played some sharp passes up the court to Kiertan who got Yendys off the mark with the first goal of the match within the first minute. This seemed to set the tone for the quarter as the girls continued to work hard closing down and making things difficult for the Foxes. Kiah and Tia were applying the pressure to keep the Foxes attackers out and reclaiming rebound balls, and several interceptions were made by Evie H, Jenevieve, Izzy and Phoebe. The girls continued to mark with style and a second forced ball was won ensuring possession was retained for Yendys. One of the Foxes players strayed offside and the girls responded by playing some extremely effective passes, pushing at pace up the court to Kiertan and Phoebe who increased the scoreline. The quarter finished an impressive 7-1 with both Kiertan and Phoebe making their shots count.

The 2nd quarter began with a change which saw Evie J replace Evie H in WA. Foxes came back onto the court and began to fight back. The girls had to dig deep and Kiah showed dominance and strength in defence whilst Tia was intercepting Foxes balls into the circle. Jeneveive was sweeping up and made 3 key interceptions from opposition passes. Izzy and Evie J played a couple of nice shots into Kiertan who was then able to increase the scoreline. Phoebe, Evie J, Izzy and Kiertan all worked well in and around the attacking circle to ensure the ball found its intended target. Half time came with the score 12-6.

A couple of changes were made for the 3rd quarter with Evie H moving into Centre, Evie J in GA and Phoebe in WA. Evie H was finding herself space and used it to good effect to make some quick fire passes into the circle for Evie J to set up Kiertan for another goal. Kiah and Tia were relentless in marking the opposition attackers restricting them to a solo effort for the quarter. The Foxes continued to fight to stay in the game and it took more goals from Evie J and Kiertan to ensure the lead was extended. The 3rd quarter finished 16-7.

The 4th quarter and some final changes saw Izzy back in centre, Evie H WA and Phoebe to GS. The team continued to pressure the Foxes with some clever movement which caused the opposition Centre to find herself offside. Yendys made good use of possession to get the ball up the court where Phoebe, the 2 Evie's and Izzy worked some smart passes around the opposition goal before increasing the score line. Jenevieve and Izzy continued to hunt the Foxes around the court making their retention of possession difficult. Tia and Kiah remained solid in defence and managed to keep the score line down as the Foxes made a final push toward the end. Final Score 18-10 win.

An improved result from the previous encounter with the foxes, well done girls. Players player of the match Izzy Cunnington
