All club cricket activities suspended until further notice.

To all members and friends of the club,

Last week In accordance with Government guidelines and English Cricket Board (ECB) recommendations, the Club suspended all cricket activities until further notice.

The current unprecedented situation with COVID-19 is obviously going to have an enormous impact on all aspects of society in the coming months - including the traditional summer of English cricket:

  • Currently, no firm re-scheduling decisions have been made at any level of the game by the ECB or our local leagues - other than to delay the start of the season until 28th May.
  • Further decisions will be taken in mid April on all aspects of professional and recreational cricket when the ECB board meets again to assess the current situation at that time.
  • Separately to this we have been told that the ECB will be communicating directly with parents who have already booked on ECB All Stars or Dynamos Cricket schemes this summer.

At Yoxford Cricket Club we look forward to resuming recreational cricket activities when it is safe and sensible to do so for all our members and the wider community.
We will keep you updated as and when we receive further guidance as to what future date we will target for the start of our summer games and sessions.

If you do not already do so - we suggest following us on one of our social media channels where info will be posted first and key updates from the ECB shared when available:

  • On Facebook @YoxfordCricketClub
  • On Twitter @yoxford_cc
  • On Instagram @yoxford_cc

The ECB’s current statement on Coronavirus issued late last week can be found here:

We hope our members understand the responsibility we all now have to follow the current social distancing guidance and the reasons why that will be imperative to protect our communities and the capacity of our NHS to treat those who will need medical care in the coming weeks and months.

Until these restrictions change:

  • Our club management committee will continue to meet (but by audio-conference) to discuss and manage essential operations at the club.
  • With the hope of cricket later this summer our ground volunteers will continue on essential preparations and maintenance to the square and ground. But this will be done on an agreed rota and inline with social distancing guidelines.
  • To allow our volunteers to continue to work at Grove Park in the coming weeks - the ground is closed until further notice.

Stay Home & Stay Active
The club committee wholeheartedly supports the recent ECB statement that:
"Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical wellbeing, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities - particularly at junior levels.”

We are especially aware with school closures and social distancing measures that many parents of our younger players may be looking for ways to keep them active at home in the coming weeks and months. To this end we will be using our social media channels to promote the best video content that can help our youth cricketers to practice and challenge themselves during this period.

In the meantime we send our best wishes to all our members and friends and our local community.
Everyone look after yourselves and each other.

Sent on behalf of the Yoxford Cricket Club Management Committee
