Ellistown & Ibstock FC v Borrowash Victoria AFC Match Report

No team deserved to lose this one

Credit to the Groundsman and volunteers who ensured the pitch was playable.

Another tight game played in driving rain and a strong wind saw Borrowash take the spoils 3-2.

In truth, both teams played their hearts out in terrible conditions and neither deserved to lose.

The game started with a one minute silence for victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.

For the first 18 minutes, a much changed Ellistown and Ibstock (EIBS) side traded blows with Borrowash as both sides tried to play attacking football.

Then 4 goals in six minutes had us struggling to keep up with the paperwork\twitter\facebook updates. The fun started on:-

18 Minutes - Kye Hall put Borrowash ahead when a hurried goalkeeper clearance left him with the task of placing the ball into an empty net from 25 yards. He was assisted by the wind. 0-1.

21 Minutes - Tariq Wilson equalised when a perfectly placed shot from 20 yards left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot. 1-1

22 Minutes - Idris Kbongo with a shot from inside the box that squeezed in by the post put Borrowash ahead. 1-2.

24 Minutes - A cool finish that involved a dink over the goalkeeper from my man of the match Jair Cabral put us level again. 2-2.

Special mention must go to Carl Timms who during the 1st half lobbed the goalkeeper from 35 yards only to hear the refs whistle for a foul.

Play returned to normal and while Borrowash hit the post right on half-time, the referee blew for half-time with the score.

EIBS 2 - 2 Barrowash

Could the 2nd half live up to the 1st half? Yes as both teams gave it their all to find a winner. Passing standards of both teams considering the conditions was excellent and the game ebbed and flowed.

The key passage of play arrived on 60 minutes when we all thought a penalty should have been awarded when our attacker was taken out by a sliding challenge in the penalty box when he was just about to shoot and score.

The ref disagreed and a goal kick was awarded.

You know what happens next, yep 3 minutes later, Borrowash attacked and a great save by our keeper saw the ball land at Kye Hall's feet who finished well to make the score.

EIBS 2-3 Barrowash

Soon after we had clear chances that included one off the line but we could not find a 3rd goal. With Barrowash looking dangerous on the attack, the smart money was on the game finishing 3-3 or 2-4.

To our surprise, there were no more goals and the referee blew for full time to make the final score.

EIBS 2-3 Barrowash

Summary

A new EIBS team battled well and did not deserve to lose this game. The future is looking brighter. Credit to Barrowash and Victoria who contributed to an exciting game.

This result leaves us in 18th position and Barrowash in 7th. We now move onto the Leicester & Rutland CFA Westerby Cup and entertain Oadby Town on Tuesday night (17th November).

If your reading this on our website and never seen us play, then please come down on Tuesday. We would welcome your support.
