On a sunny but sometimes cold afternoon at Meadrow, Ash United claimed another win on the road. This was always going to be a hard game against difficult opponents, but Ash United's players could be said to have "stepped up to the plate" and put on a good performance from which they gained a 4-0 win. Patchy play and the long ball were components in the game, but both teams did try to play the ticky-tacky passing game, which didn't always come off.
Jack Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Ash in the 40th minute, giving the away side the advantage at half-time.
The more recently witnessed slow start to the second half by Ash did not materialise this time and Tom Bale scored in the 55th minute, to put the away team 2-0 up. It was to be nearly another 20 minutes before Jake Wilson added Ash's third goal, on 73 minutes. Substitute Luke Cairns then added a magnificent fourth goal on 78 minutes, which, on the bench at least, had some of the Ash contingent wondering whether Luke's shot was really a cross that went in from a wide angle.....a little unjust perhaps...but it sealed a good win on the road.
Next up.....Frimley Green at the Shawfield Stadium on Tuesday 28th August, with a 7.30pm kick off, giving the players a day off from the original traditional August Bank Holiday fixture, with what would have been its equally traditional 11.30am kick-off.
Team vs Godalming: Cunningham; Kipping, Bale, Dixon, Devanney, Lally, Nwaubani, Whitehouse, Wilson, Fitzgerald, Williams. Subs - Cairns, Hamill, Robertson, Holmes, Chilton.
