Bamber Bridge 1 - 2 Colne (LFA Trophy Semi Final)

By

Brig's cup run comes to an end in the semis.

Bamber Bridge exited the LFA Challenge Trophy at the semi-final stage, after a 2-1 defeat to Colne.

A 75th minute Lee Pugh goal at the County Ground in Leyland, proved enough for Steve Cunningham’s men.

Alistair Waddecar had levelled things from the spot, after Bradley Lynch’s first-half deflected strike.

The game started in a scrappy fashion with neither side conjuring up too many chances.

Lynch fired wide early in the half from the left side of the box, but the winger made his next chance count, sliding in the opener with his right-foot which deflected past Danny Roccia.

Brig huffed and puffed, but the only real close moment came from a free kick at the end of the half which Waddecar struck just wide of the top right corner.

And he came close again after the restart, cutting in from the right hand side and curling his left-footed shot over the bar.

On the 70-minute mark though the No.7 did find the back of the net, slotting home from the penalty spot after Scott Harries was brought down following a mix-up between Waqas Azam and Hakan Burton.

Brig were frustratingly only level for five minutes though.

Josh Hine ran through on goal only to see his shot well turned behind by Roccia, but from the resulting corner Pugh was on hand to stab home from close range.

Danny Forbes saw a header saved by Burton deep into stoppage time, with that proving the last opportunity of the game for Brig to keep their cup hopes alive.
