Barry Town Utd 4-0 Dafen Ladies

By

Town record win in final home game of the season.

Barry Town Utd Ladies went into their final home league game of the season looking to produce a strong finish in the Welsh Women's League and in this fixture they would host West Wales outfit Dafen Welfare.

Both sides went into this fixture missing several key players with the visitors only being able to field 10 players for the match. For Barry, there were 5 absentees which gave manager Luke Williams the opportunity give some squad players some much needed minutes with another month of the season remaining.

Despite the one player advantage it as the away side that started strongly, playing a high intensity pressing game and Dafen almost took the lead when a long range effort cannoned off the crossbar. There was very little in the game in the first 30 minutes but a change of shape for Barry soon saw them start to dictate matters and the home side took the lead on 38 minutes.

The ball was played out down the left to Taylor Page who hit a cross come shot that looped over the goalkeeper to put Barry ahead. Just three minutes later Barry doubled their lead through a nicely worked goal. Olivia Townsend found Chelsea Deacon who beat one player before sliding a pass to Harriet Hurrell who struck home a finely placed shot into the corner from 20 yards.

2-0 at the break was probably harsh on the visitors who worked tirelessly in hot conditions.

The second half saw the man advantage really takes it's toll on the visitors as Barry dominated possession and went in search of further goals. Just 13 minutes into the second half and Barry notched up their third goal of the day when a good move saw Sian Rees play a great ball into the penalty area for Brooke Howell who squared the ball for Laura Saliba to shoot home to make it 3-0.

More chances fell the way of the home side, Rees hit a post and Hurrell had another good effort well saved by the goalkeeper. The games intensity dropped in the final 15 minutes, not surprisingly in very hot conditions . Caitlin Meadows came off the bench to make her senior debut in the final stages and she would have a role to play in the final goal of the match. Deacon won the ball in midfield laying the ball off the Meadows who played a perfectly weighted first time pass for Chloe Clarke to cross from the left and Saliba volley home to make it 4-0 and score her second of the day and fifth goal of the season.

The result in the end was a comfortable 4-0 win for Barry but huge credit must go to the visitors who battled well throughout.

Barry's next fixture will be the South Wales FA Cup Final against Merthyr Town (2:30 kick off) at Penybont FC.
